I did not know what to expect. being outside and the weather was cool. Thought it should have been inside a classroom setting to start out with. Being at the waterfront park had it's distractions of a public park dealing with people and noise of this location. But I did learn more about photography skills which is what I had hoped to do.

A few years ago I attended the Lincoln County Photo Festival in Caliente Nevada, a great one-week photography workshop put on by Lincoln County to promote tourism. While there, we were given permission to shoot the abandoned mill at night (normally closed to the public). I was hoping to get some good milkway photos with the mill, but the stars were barely visible due to a half-moon and lots of clouds. Using the moonlight and clouds to my advantage, I instead did some very long exposures whic

This is a photo of the Williams Mine Wildfire, that was burning on the slopes of Mount Adams on 8/11. The fire was crossing 12,000 acres at the time. I had scouted the location a few days before, and my goal was to take a photo that communicated the scale and impact of wildfires within the context of the surroundings. I knew I needed twilight for the fire itself to be visible, and actually captured the intended shot about an hour before this. I did not look at the space weather forecast, and not

I couldn't wait for the Milky Way at this location due to high bear activity it was almost dark by the time I hiked back to the car. This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th

Was out looking for anything to photograph on one my few days off from work. So I went to the plot of land where I deer hunt. Any wild flower that may still be in bloom, insects, things like that. Tons of grasshoppers everywhere and I came across this fella. I didn't realize he possibly had a wounded left wing until I processed the photos. No wonder he sat thru many different angles, exposures, and me getting up in his face and didn't offer to fly off.
