Teach a Class
Come along to our bimonthly photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.
Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a casual photo walk with other local photographers. No formal lectures, just a chance to meet-up, share ideas and receive feedback! We have a different photo theme bimontly and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations around Portland. It's a great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

We also occasionally hold more formal beginners classes which last 3 hours and are limited to 6 people. These classes are perfect for complete beginners who want to start using manual mode and those who want to brush up on the basics. See the dates below.

Join the Portland Photography Facebook Group to share your photos after the session.

We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you're sick.
Keep 6 feet away from others.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Wash your hands regularly with alcohol-based sanitiser.
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue; if you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.

Anne showed numerous techniques that I was not familiar with and I cane out of the event energized and willing to experiment my newly acquired skills.

Extremely informative! Ann had all sorts of examples and situations set up for us to practice each new skill. She did a great job of helping everyone even though there were rather complex settings and adjustments to be made for each situation.

Anne is a wonderful teacher. Calm, patient and gave us just the information we needed without overwhelming us with too much. It was a delight to become more familiar with manual mode

I appreciated the extra attention I received from Anna and Micheal while I wrestled with a new camera and the tasks we all undertook.i feel I have a much better understanding of the camera, shutter speed, ISO and aperture settings and their applications. Thanks I look forward to another class in the future.

I had fun. It was well planned and the leader was excellent. She was a little subtle, but if you listened carefully, she gives extremely good advice.

This was my first time participating in one of these meetups and I really enjoyed the opportunity to just wander around making photos. I think Anamaria did a great job leading the group— as i’m not a resident of Portland (i’m a suburbanite) it was really nice to have a “local expert” guiding the outing. Thanks!

It was fabulous! Having all of the equipment there along with a model helped fit all of the pieces together. Ann was very gracious with her facility and encouraged everyone to participate while checking their work and offering suggestions. There weren't any bad questions. Fun group of people to learn with.
